Film based imagery of terrain has a long history, starting in ballons in the late 19th century. Its pedigree is long and well known. Film is still a valid technology for image capture.

Once the capture has been done however, the benefits of digital cameras and work processes are increasingly evident

• Digital images in RAW format can be processed immediately - from the moment of capture onwards. We have the software to do this processing in house. No need to send negatives to labs for processing. Results are available to managers for emergency and incident management.
• The PhaseOne sensor of the AIC captures imagery in 24 bit colour. This yields much better colour range and hence reveals more detail in shadow areas, in water bodies and other features.
• By using the data from the AeroStab mount GPS/IMU, the cost of ground control can be reduced without diminishing quality.
• Duplication and archiving of imagery does not entail loss of detail or quality.
• Overlap at standard percentages can be achieved with negligible additional cost, yielding better results with less distortion such as building lean.
